Durham Region Makeup artist

Hey there Keisha, we are so excited to have you on our blog this week! I wanted to share you more with my clientele but also future clients looking for a bomb makeup artist! I have a few questions to get to know you better; so i hope you’re ready! Here is an Interview with Durham Region and Toronto’s Best Makeup Artist

Hi Jevonna, Thank you for having me on your blog!!

Question One:

Where are you and your business located? What area do you serve?

My in-house studio is located in Ajax, Ontario however I also offer mobile service servicing Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Clarington, Bowmanville, Scarborough, Toronto, North York, Markham, Mississauga, Brampton and Richmond Hill. I also do international bookings as well!

Question Two:

How long have you been a Durham Region Makeup artist?

Makeup has always been a part of my life! I started playing around with makeup and different colour products when I was in grade school and I developed a passion for it when I was in high school and started off doing makeup for my friends and family at that time. I took a different career path but I eventually got back to my first love, which is makeup artistry and went back to school to get certified and then started my business in 2018.

Question Three:

When you’re not doing makeup, what are you doing?

Everything lol! I like to keep busy doing a host of different things like gardening or working out, but my favourite thing to do besides doing makeup is definitely doing DIY projects around the house. I’m naturally creative by nature and I love painting and building decor pieces for my home. I call myself ‘Mommy fix it because I feel like I can do it all lol.

Some of Keisha’s amazing work. This mom felt amazing after her makeup getting done.

Question Four:

What is your favourite genre to do makeup for? (Weddings, photoshoots, etc)

Every makeup application is special to me as I like to ensure every client has a custom application that is specifically geared towards their features and skin type. However, there is something about transforming a bride on her special day that I love. It’s such a momentous day and I love that I am entrusted to have the bride looking their best on such a beautiful occasion.

Question Five:

How many hours do you work during the week typically?

In addition to being a freelance makeup artist, I am also a professor at Seneca college where I teach the makeup program. I usually teach for 9-10 hours per week coupled with my client bookings and doing demos for Estee Lauder, I’m usually working an average of 25 hours per week.

Question six:

What is your favourite thing to do outside of working ?

When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family. I have 5 children who are growing up way too fast so I try to spend as much time with them as I can doing activities that they enjoy.

Question seven:

Where do you see yourself in 5 years with your business?

I have high hopes and aspirations for my business and in 5 years I see Shades of Beauty by Keisha evolving into an empire and expanding by offering more services and also including beauty products. My next step is working on a product line that I am hoping the launch very soon.

Question eight:

Where do you see yourself in 5 years outside of your business?

I am laser focused on building up my brand so a lot of my 5 years plans have to do with my business. If I can say one thing I want to accomplish is increasing my business knowledge, which may entail me going back to school. I’m a firm believer that knowledge and education is the key to bring successful in any business and we should never stop learning.

Question Nine:

If you could travel anywhere , where would it be and why?

I would love to visit Jerusalem! I grew up in a Christian household and God and my faith has always been a part of my life. Being able to walk where Jesus walked has always been something that I want to do.

Question ten:

If you could give someone learning basic makeup advice, what would you say?

It’s all about skin prep! It’s key to a flawless makeup application. I tell my students all the time that your makeup will only be as good as the skin underneath so it’s imperative that any skin concerns are addressed prior to the makeup application. Moisturizer, primer and sometimes a light exfoliation are a must.

Question eleven:

What is the funniest thing you’ve experienced when working ?

Working on a client that was so ticklish that every time I touched her chin and jawline she busted out laughing lol. I never experienced that before and she definitely had me in laughing right along with her. That was definitely an application to remember!

Question twelve: Can you tag your socials and the best place to book you?

The best place to book me would be on my website
